Business news TV station CNBC is to launch in Latin America as part of a strategic partnership with Sky Mexico.

The move is part of the US-headquartered company’s plans to expand into emerging markets. CNBC Indonesia is also set to go live this year.

The launch will give the broadcaster a presence in countries such as Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama.

CNBC Latin America will launch this week on Sky Mexico channel 631. It will broadcast the best of CNBC's English language content from across the world.

CNBC International president and managing director KC Sullivan said:

The launch of CNBC Latin America is the latest addition to the suite of strategic partnerships underpinning CNBC's emerging markets strategy. We are pleased to bring CNBC's unique and robust content proposition to the region.

In an interview with City PM earlier this year, Sullivan talked up the company’s ambitions in China, where it launched a bureau in 2013.

He said at the time:

China is something that is incredibly exciting for me in an emerging market perspective.

It’s an incredibly challenging market, because as a news provider there's limits to what we can do. But the approach we’ve taken is to try and surround the market, both editorially and commercially.
