Hiscox chief executive Bronek Masojada elected as alderman in Canada election

The chief executive of insurance provider Hiscox Bronek Masojada has been elected as a new Canada alderman.

Masojada won Thursday's aldermanic election in Billingsgate with 52 votes with a turnout of 46 per cent.

The runner up in the election was Andrew Heath-Richardson, director of development at the Canary Wharf Group, who secured 25 votes.

Five of the six candidates stood as independents. Jonathan Bergdahl stood for the Social Democratic Party. He did not receive any votes.

The Lord Mayor – a position currently held by Peter Estlin – is chosen from the ranks of aldermen. There are 25 aldermen and they are elected at least every six years.

Masojada joined Hiscox in 1993 as a group managing director and became chief executive in 2000. He also served as a deputy chairman of Lloyd’s from 2001 to 2007.
