Highbury & Islington station has been reopened after commuters were evacuated in response to a fire alert.

The station was temporarily closed to the Victoria Line and London Overground due to the fire signal, but has now been reopened after the London Fire Brigade attended the scene.

Travellers at the station were evacuated at around 9am – some through emergency exits – and told there had been a “reported emergency”.

Large crowds were photographed outside the station following the evacuation and while the issue has been resolved commuters have been told to expect continued disruption until 09:30.

It is the second time in just over a week a London Underground station has been evacuated, following a fire alert at Paddington Station last  Monday.
