Heaven Sent is Glorious each-way value in Goodwood’s Nassau Stakes
SIR MICHAEL STOUTE has his string in rude health at present and the New-market handler can go very close to landing tomorrow’s feature contest on the final day of Glorious Goodwood with HEAVEN SENT. The six-year-old mare finished fourth to Halfway To Heaven in this race last year overcoming trouble in running and staying on really well at the death. She had three genuine Group One fillies in front of her that day and doesn’t face anything of their quality tomorrow.
Midday hated the ground in Ireland last time and is a worthy favourite on her Oaks running. However, she looked all about stamina that day and I’m not sure she’ll be suited by this drop back in trip. John Gosden’s Rainbow View has shown nothing so far this season to suggest she is anything like the filly she was 12 months ago. Heaven Sent finished in front of her and Spacious at Newmarket last time and looks sure to relish the step back up from a mile. She represents great each-way value at 7/1 with Boylesports and I’d be very surprised if she failed to make the frame.
The Bluesquare.com Stewards Cup (3.40pm) looks as tricky as you might expect for one of the season’s most competitive handicaps. Richard Fahey’s Knot In Wood looks sure to put in another good show after last weekend’s impressive York win. However, I’ll be having a few quid on the John Gosden- trained PROHIBIT at around the 10/1 mark. The four-year-old son of Oasis Dream ran a cracker from a bad draw in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot last time when 5th to High Standing and finally looks to be getting his act together. He could be pretty well treated off his current mark and although he has an awkward head carriage, I expect him to go close.
The seven-furlong maiden at 4.15pm looks an interesting contest with a number of well regarded types making their racecourse debuts. However, TEXAN STAR can cap a great day for John Gosden by going one better than at Newbury last time. This 85,000gns son of Galileo looks to be above average and will take some catching.
Today’s card at Goodwood looks as tough as ever with the feature race being the Totesport Mile at 3.25pm. Now, the draw is all important as recent winners of this event have all been drawn high. In fact, the first five home in last year’s renewal were all drawn in the five widest berths. My original fancy for the race was Mark Johnstone’s Dubai’s Touch, but my confidence disappeared when he drew gate 5. It’s certainly not impossible for him to win, but it makes life a hell of a lot harder. Therefore, I’ll be backing Henry Cecil’s well drawn CLOUDY START at 7/1 and will be having a saver each-way on KAVACHI at 10/1.
The former is drawn 21 of the 22 runners and has the early speed to hold a decent position. The three-year-old colt looks highly progressive and has everything in his favour today.
