A headhunting startup has raised £1m in seed funding as it prepares to rollout its technology across London.

YapJobs, which launched in November last year, focuses on connecting people with jobs in the hospitality and service sectors.

The firm said it has so far processed 50,000 applications and worked with more than 600 employers, including Le Meridian Hotels, Gaucho, Carluccio’s, Bang & Olufsen, Costa Coffee, The Ivy and Hard Rock Cafe.

YapJobs uses technology to pre-screen and verify candidates before sending out curated lists of 20 candidates “virtually headhunted” for roles.

Chief executive Shahzad Ali said: “I grew up in the heat of a restaurant and know that the people employed are the lifeblood of the service industry. But I also know how the wrong environment can make it a very difficult place to work which has an impact on staff retention.

“That’s why I launched YapJobs, to help the best people find work quickly in the places that they really want to work. We want to use technology to help drive a real change in the industry, ensuring that people are also matched to company culture which will help promote a better working environment across the board.”
