Hardcore horology for women: Montblanc’s latest puts its mechanical guts on display

Montblanc is known for mechanical fireworks when it comes to men’s watches but its women’s range has tended to be more sedate. But following in the footsteps of its first women’s perpetual calendar – also part of the hugely successful Boheme collection – comes its first women’s exotourbillon.

You may be familiar with a common-or-garden tourbillon, but an exotourbillon has the minimal weight of the cage disconnected from the balance wheel, making it even more precise. Aside from the science, it’s a beautiful, bold watch. It’s slim (just 9.37mm high) and, at 38mm, is substantial without being imposing.

Having its horological guts on display can make a watch look masculine, but that’s balanced out by the diamond-set bezel and guilloched mother-of-pearl dial. It also has a simple release button on the strap so it can be easily swapped. It’s certainly a surprise but one of the best ones to have come out of Montblanc for a while.
