CARILLION has been hired to build a 40-storey Hard Rock Hotel in Abu Dhabi in a contract worth £110m.

The FTSE 250 firm, which recently finished work on the Oman Parliament building, will start work on the five star hotel later this month.

In the latest sign that construction is recovering in the United Arab Emirates, the developers have decided to revive the project after a two-year hiatus.

The tower, designed by Aabar Properties, will have 378 rooms, a rooftop pool and a hookah lounge along with a Hard Rock Café.

Carillion is due to finish the hotel in early 2017.

Hard Rock International, which has 10 hotels across the US and has been owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida since 2007, is expanding internationally.

The group has been sizing up locations for a new hotel in London.

The company has had a branch of the Hard Rock Cafe in Dubai, a neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi, since 1998.
