Burch has also spearheaded the CBI’s work on building consumer trust in data and the ethical use of AI.

The director of innovation and digital at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has been appointed the seat at the helm of the government’s Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation (CDEI).

Joining in August, the incoming executive director Felicity Burch will work with the new chair and refreshed board to support the government’s National Data Strategy.

The strategy, updated in December, aims to work at the cross-section of business and technology.

Formerly a senior member of the UK’s largest business association, the CBI, Burch has already led policy work to support business innovation.

Whilst at the CBI, Burch led its successful campaign, urging the government to commit to a target for research and development expenditure and promoted the adoption of technology.

Burch has also spearheaded the CBI’s work on building consumer trust in data and the ethical use of AI.

Before the CBI, she was a senior economist at EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation.
