Google appeared to be down this morning, with many users experiencing a 500 error.

It means a generic error suggesting a problem with the website's server and is shown to users when a more specific error can't be found.

Twitter users turned to the social network to air their surprise and shock.

It's extremely rare for the search giant to experience any outage leading many to suggest it's the end of days.
