Goodwood betting: Isomer looks a vintage bet for in-form Balding team

Aidan O’Brien’s War Decree is weighted to reverse the form with Newmarket conqueror Boynton in Tuesday's Group Two Qatar Vintage Stakes (2.35pm) – and the likelihood is he will.

The Irish trainer is bidding to win the race for the second time in three runnings, however I won’t be racing to take the skinny prices available with doubts about the trip enough to put me off.

Instead I’ll be looking to take on both market principles in favour of Andrew Balding’s ISOMER, who is currently available at 10/1 with Coral.

The chestnut colt made it third time lucky in a maiden at Salisbury earlier this month, having run well twice in defeat, including a second-place finish behind Churchill in the Chesham at Royal Ascot.

O’Brien’s Churchill is as short as 8/1 in the market for next year’s 2000 Guineas and has since won again at Leopardstown, so that form bodes well.

He gets the trip and the stable are in great form having notched a hat-trick of winners on Saturday. A big run is likely and he looks a solid each-way proposition.

Frankie Dettori will be on the hunt for his 3,000th British winner on the Sussex Downs this week and he should go close with GOLD PRINCE in the Summer Stakes Handicap (3.45pm).

There’s nobody better from the front on a horse than the charismatic Italian and those tactics are likely to be adopted once again.

Sylvester Kirk’s entry has been in great form this season and with the step up in trip likely to eke out more improvement, the 10/1 available looks a decent price.
