Goodwood betting: Cash in on The Cashel Man in Goodwood’s marathon

An abundance of stamina is required to successfully conquer Wednesday's 2m5f Goodwood Stakes (2.00pm) and, although he’s yet to be asked the question, I think THE CASHEL MAN will relish the trip.

After blowing away the cobwebs at Ascot on his seasonal reappearance, David Simcock’s four-year-old ran well over two miles at York to finish second to the progressive Saigon City.

His first spin on the all-weather may have been a little underwhelming, finishing eighth in the Northumberland Vase at Newcastle last time, but that was a messy race and I’m happy to forgive him.

With just 10 career starts, the son of High Chaparral has relatively few miles on the clock and there’s room for improvement over today’s extra distance.

Jockey bookings also suggest he’s the one to be on, with Jamie Spencer electing to ride him over Betway Chester Cup victor No Heretic. Take the 13/2 on offer.

Bringing down the curtain on day two of the five-day festival is a competitive seven furlong handicap (5.25pm) where Pastoral Player defends his crown.

Hughie Morrison’s runner carries 5lbs more this year, though, and preference is for Dean Ivory’s TWIN SAILS who is now on a very workable mark.

His two-year-old form, which includes a close fourth to dual Group One winner Galileo Gold, saw his rating peak at 105. This time he goes off just 95 in a race that doesn’t look too strong.

After a narrow defeat to Dawaa off top-weight at York, my inclination is that he’s better than a Class 3 handicapper and Coral’s 10/1 is an each-way price not to be missed.
