BACK office bankers are best paid at Goldman Sachs, according to a study of salaries and bonuses in the sector from Emolument.com.

Staff in support functions at the prestigious investment bank receive an average salary of £87,000 with an average bonus of £38,000, taking total pay up to £125,000.

The next biggest bonuses is at BNP Paribas, at £21,000, and £17,000 at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

But those are all far below the awards for front office staff such as traders and dealmakers.

Goldman Sachs also tops the league table there with directors receiving average bonuses of £194,000 – payouts that come despite the shift from bonuses and towards salaries, to match EU regulations on the handouts.
