Gold keen to Hammer out a deal

FORMER Birmingham chairman David Gold insists he is not put off investing in West Ham by their pile of debt.

Gold and former Blues co-owner David Sullivan are thought to be interested in buying the Hammers, who are owned largely by Icelandic bank Straumur-Burdaras.

But while Sullivan has expressed concerns at the amount the east London club owe, Gold appears unconcerned. “I wouldn’t dwell on the problems or previous owners,” Gold said of West Ham.

He and Sullivan left Birmingham earlier this month after selling to Hong Kong-based Carson Yeung. But Gold, a former West Ham youth player, is already missing the game.

“I just have to have this adrenalin kick every now and then and only football gives it,” he added. “I’m the chairman of five companies as I speak but no business gives me the thrill that being in football does.”
