GLOUCESTER Rugby, the only Guinness Premiership club to make a profit in 2007-08, is set to announce a loss for last season.

The erection of the club’s new main stand increased capacity at Kingsholm by a third two years ago – a move which helped the club make a profit of around £650,000.

But managing director Ken Nottage explained: “We are technically still in a recession and the areas that were hit most were attendances and the corporate market.

“At best the year to May 31 will be a break even position, but it’s more likely to be a small loss.”
