It was a long election – and what felt like an even longer night (and morning), with unexpected twists and turns worthy of any Hollywood thriller.

No one predicted the outcome of the General Election and no one even imagined the week ending with a majority government and the scalps of three party leaders being taken.

Here's the best quotes we heard over the last 24 hours as events unfolded, chosen from many a choice soundbite uttered over polling day and night which will no doubt be raked over in the days to come.
