Fulham heap more worry on Allardyce as resurgent Hull overcome Everton

FULHAM (3) vs BLACKBURN (0)

MIDFIELDER Clint Dempsey scored twice as Fulham gave Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce further cause for concern.

The Rovers boss is due to undergo heart surgery tomorrow and his wife had threatened to confiscate his mobile phone ahead of last night’s clash. And his condition would not have been helped by watching his side leapfrogged in the table by the Cottagers, who strolled to victory after a sluggish start.

Erik Nevland put them ahead on the stroke of half time when he finished a counter-attack he started and early in the second half Dempsey double the lead when he converted Damien Duff’s cross-shot. The American then capped the win with a late third.

At the KC Stadium, meanwhile, Hull continued their dramatic recent revival with a 3-2 victory over struggling Everton. The Tigers wrapped up the game in the first half, scoring three times through Stephen Hunt, Andy Dawson and Dean Marney.

Everton mounted a comeback after the break, forcing Kamil Zayatte to first score an own goal and then concede a penalty, converted by Louis Saha, but it proved in vain.

Defeat for the Toffees was a second blow of the evening, after their hopes of building a 50,000-seater stadium in Kirkby nosedived. The government is today expected to confirm that the £400m project has been rejected.
