CHANCELLOR Alistair Darling has appointed four non-executive directors to the board of City watchdog the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

The new hires include consumer champion Mick McAteer, the founder and director of the Financial Inclusion Centre, and Financial Inclusion Task Force chairman Brian Pomeroy.

London Business School economics professor Andrew Scott and James Strachan, the former Audit Commission chairman, have also been placed on theFSA board.

The hires come after a series of departures from the board, including that of Michael Slack, who announced he was leaving yesterday.

And Sir James Crosby resigned from the FSAboard in February following allegations that, while head of stricken lender HBOS, he sacked senior manager Paul Moore because he raised concerns the firm was too exposed to risk.

FSA chairman Adair Turner said: “We are continuing our current search for up to two new board members to fill these vitally important roles.”

Non-executive directors serve as independent board members who provide oversight and expertise.
