Fourth day of transport problems for Thameslink passengers

Thameslink trains are subject to delays and cancellations this morning – for the fourth day in a row.

The services have been disrupted since Tuesday after wire damage led to signalling problems, which have only just been fixed. There was a limited service across the entire Thameslink network yesterday, and National Rail warned that the problems could continue today. East Midlands Trains services were also affected.

National Rail said today that while the signals have been repaired, "alterations and cancellations can still be expected whilst the service recovers".

The rail operator said: "We anticipate that a normal service will be able to resume at approximately 12:00."

Until midday, however, the following alterations will continue to apply:

  • There will be a reduced stopping service between Luton and London St Pancras International, and between London Blackfriars and Sutton/Wimbledon
  • Services which usually start/terminate at Luton will be starting/terminating at West Hampstead Thameslink

Angry commuters took to Twitter to complain about the continued disruption to services.

@TLRailUK if normal means four peak trains cancelled and close to 600 people waiting for a train at harpenden then ur right! https://t.co/x2qERJ22j9

@TLRailUK the incompetence is staggering. WHEN is a train going to leave Harpenden? I'm sick of standing in the cold clueless yet again.
