Two former chief executives who presided over mining giants during the financial crisis have moved on to pastures new.

Cynthia Carroll, who was chief executive of Anglo American from 2007 to 2013, has been hired as an adviser at Indian mining conglomerate Vedanta Resources.

“Having known Cynthia for many years, I look forward to collaborating with her and leveraging her valuable industry expertise,” said Vedanta’s chief executive Tom Albanese, who previously headed up rival FTSE 100 miner Rio Tinto.

Marius Kloppers, who steered the helm at BHP Billiton during the same years, has accepted a nomination to join the board of directors at FLSmidth & Co., a Danish engineering firm. “Marius Kloppers will bring with him a wealth of global business and mining experience,” said chairman of the board Vagn Sorensen.

The 2008 financial crisis kicked off a slump in commodities prices from which the sector has not yet recovered. The heads of some of the largest firms, including Anglo, Rio and BHP, abruptly departed after the crash.
