US Presidential hopeful Donald Trump may have alienated many of the world's politicians, but that didn't stop former Alaska governor Sarah Palin endorsing the billionaire, giving him a potential boost.

Palin, herself the vice-presidential nominee in 2008, threw her weight behind Trump, giving him his highest profile backer so far, just two weeks away from the Iowa caucuses.

“Are you ready for the leader to make America great again?” Palin said at a rally. “Are you ready to stump for Trump? I’m here to support the next President of the United States — Donald Trump.”

Palin has retired from politics to pursue a media career, but still retains influence in conservative circles.

Trump's rival for the White House Ted Cruz has previously credited Palin with helping him win his seat in the US senate, after she campaigned on his behalf, but passed on her allegiance to Trump in his bid to become commander-in-chief.

Meanwhile, as Trump still leads heavily in the Republican polls, Hillary Clinton has come under pressure from her rival Bernie Sanders in the Democrat camp. According to polling, Sanders' lead over Clinton in New Hampshire is on the rise.
