TASTEITALYATHARVEYNICKS
Harvey Nichols is hosting a food market throughout October, featuring the likes of the chicest Puglian tomato paste you’ll ever see, Piedmontese rocket and lemon pesto and a new range of bruschetta toppings including pepperoni, mushrooms and artichoke cream. Look out for olive oil tastings too. 109-125 Knightsbridge, SW1X 7RJ, tel: 020 7235 5000, www.harveynichols.com.

WHISKYBARATTHEATHENAEUM

Whisky lovers have a new home: the Athenaeum’s new bar has over 270 whiskies and a selection that spans everything from the finest single malts to unusual samples from now-disused distilleries and tipples from Japan. There’s a dedicated whisky “connoisseur” who makes recommendations and helps pair your dram with the right food. Newly revamped, with black and white photography on the walls and extra plush furnishings, this is a solidly stylish hotel bar. The Athenaeum, 116 Piccadilly, W1J 7BJ, tel: 020 7499 3464.

HEINZ BECK AT APSLEY’S
Apsley’s – the Italian restaurant at the Lanesborough – has a new chef in the form of Heinz Beck, whose La Pergola restaurant in Rome won him three Michelin stars. Consequently it ain’t cheap, with starters such as seabass cannolo with celery and melon starting at £14. To go all out, try the tasting menu for £75 per head. The Lanesborough, Hyde Park Corner, SW1X 7TA, tel: 020 7259 5599, www.lanesborough.com.
