Fleetwood and Warren can make their mark at The Open

IT IS a sign of the times that the majority of the coverage around this year’s Open isn’t focused on Tiger Woods.

The 14-time major winner has lifted the Claret Jug on two of his last three visits to St Andrews, but he just isn’t in the same form at the moment.

His finishing positions quote with Sporting Index is an incredible 47-50.

The market makes up at 70 if your player misses the cut so sellers know the most they can lose is 23 times their stake.

There will be plenty who think he can do better than 47th, but his game is so inconsistent that I’m not willing to get involved.

Tommy Fleetwood has done well in Scotland in the past.

He finished tied second in last year’s Dunhill Links at this venue and won the Johnnie Walker at Gleneagles in 2013.

He was bang in there at last week’s Scottish Open before a respectable 10th place finish.

Fleetwood isn’t the best putter, and I’d be surprised if he can win, but his finishing position looks a good sell at 42.

Paul Lawrie was the last Scottish winner of the Open.

Following a 16-year hiatus, Marc Warren will be hoping he can finally give the home crowd something to cheer about after a fine 64 in the final round of the Scottish Open.

That left him tied fourth and he looks to be hitting form at just the right time.

A small sell of his finishing position at 44 is advised.
