WHETHER you’re suffering from a new injury or a recurring injury, it can be a frustrating time. So how to get back in the saddle ASAP? Follow these four steps.

Work on your abs: Although core stability is no longer the cure-all it was once considered to be, creating a “girdle of strength” by working your deep abdominals, hip and lower and mid back muscles will definitely help if you’re predisposed to injury.

Bend it like Beckham: Stretching out tight muscles will help relieve pain and should prevent further injuries in the future. Something as trivial-sounding as tight hamstrings from sitting at a desk all day can pull on the pelvis and cause lower back pain, so spend just a couple of minutes a day working on those problem areas.

Invest in a massage: Massage is a must when dealing with any sports injury. The patented Active Release Technique (ART) soft tissue treatment is highly effective at tackling stubborn scar tissue and aiding recovery. The best ART therapist in the Square Mile and beyond, hands down, is trainer and therapist, Bruce Butler (07947 318532/[email protected])

Change your routine: You don’t need to take complete rest – most experts agree that mild exercise speeds recovery as it improves blood flow to the area. Try low-impact cross training – swimming, cycling and rowing are pretty safe bets.
