TWEET WHAT YOU EAT
Yes, there really is a website and Twitter community that goes by this name. A US study of 1,700 people found that keeping a note of what they’d eaten helped participants see where additional calories were creeping in and how they could deal with specific situations. Tweetwhatyoueat (@Twye) is a Twitter-based food diary where you can track what you’ve eaten, keep a count of calories and add your actual weight and goal weight. Genius.

GET FOLLOWING
My favourites for the ladies are the phenomenal US Shape magazine (@shapemag) and the sexy women’s Maxitone brand (@MaxitoneUK) while the hands-down winner for the guys has to be @MensFitnessMag for the very best workouts and motivational tips.

SHARE YOUR SUCCESS
Chronicle your weight loss or bask in your new slimline glory by posting all your flattering pics on Twitpic. Even better – share your before and after pics to help keep you on track and remind yourself about what you’ve achieved. And it’ll help motivate your followers too.

UTILISE SOCIAL GROUPS
Join a Twitter fitness community like TwitFitter to help yourself stay motivated, meet like-minded people and get all-important tips on the latest exercises.

TWEET YOUR GOALS
Sending out tweets about your goals, be they fitness or waistline-based, will really help to keep you on track. Not only will support from followers help to boost your efforts, your pride will want you to stick to every rule and resolution you’ve set once you’ve announced it to the world. Bearing this is mind, keep it real: committing to transforming yourself into a size zero by the weekend is setting yourself up for a fall, but quitting booze for a week is easy.
