Farage: Women are worth less to City bosses

WOMEN who take time off to have children are “worth less” to City bosses than their male colleagues, Ukip leader Nigel Farage has said.

Speaking at a conference on Europe, Farage said he didn’t believe there was any discrimination against women in the City, singling out banks, brokerage houses and Lloyd’s of London as good examples. “If a woman has a client base and has a child and takes two or three years off work, she is worth far less to the employer when she comes back than when she goes away because her client base cannot be stuck rigidly to her,” he said. Farage, who used to be a broker, said he would employ people who brought in the most business, regardless of their gender. Labour’s deputy leader Harriet Harman said the comments were “downright wrong”.
