Facebook has announced the third edition of its London accelerator programme, which will be open to startups from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) for the first time.

The scheme is open to high-growth startups and aims to support those that are “harnessing the power of technology to have a positive impact on the world”, Facebook said.

Facebook said the new programme will focus on startups that using artificial intelligence (AI), virtual or augmented reality (AR/VR), blockchain, or other Facebook technologies.

The startups that are chosen to participate will participate in a programme of workshops and receive mentoring and support from Facebook employees.

The 12-week startup incubator programme was first launched in the UK almost two years ago under the name LDN_LAB, but will now be known as Facebook Accelerator London.

“Innovation is at the heart of Facebook”, said Nicola Mendelsohn, Facebook’s vice president of EMEA.

“We hope that through this programme we can help nurture a new cohort of businesses towards making a positive impact on the world,” she added.

Digital minister Matt Warman said: “I am delighted that Facebook Accelerator London will bring startups from around the world to the capital to learn from leaders in our hugely successful tech community.”

“This programme will help these startups have a positive impact in communities across the world and I encourage all interested to apply,” Warman said.
