Fabregas commits to Arsenal as Milan cool Adebayor talk

ARSENAL captain Cesc Fabregas yesterday rubbished reports that a lack of silverware has made him hanker for a return to Spain, insisting his future lies in north London.

And Emmanuel Adebayor also looks likely to stay with the Gunners, after AC Milan played down their interest in the unsettled striker.

Fabregas had been quoted as saying Arsenal were “impotent”, following a fourth consecutive season without winning a trophy, fuelling speculating that the former Barcelona midfielder could join Real Madrid.

But the 22-year-old yesterday emphatically insisted that although he is frustrated by the Gunners’ lack of success, he remains determined to lead them to long-awaited glory.

“For anyone who is unclear or may have misunderstood what my position is, let me make myself absolutely crystal clear. I am wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal and my future lies with this great club,” he said.

“It is a fact that we have not won a trophy for four years and yes, I am angry about that, but that anger stems from the deep deep desire I have to win things with Arsenal.

“I am proud to captain this team and proud to wear the shirt. It really upsets me when people express my thoughts otherwise.”

Adebayor, meanwhile, is thought to be available at the right price, after a disappointing season, but his principal suitors AC Milan said yesterday that he was only third on their shopping list, after Wolfsburg’s Edin Dzeko and Luis Fabiano of Sevilla.

“We are only looking for a forward, and our aim is Dzeko,” said Milan vice-president Adriano. “If we fail to get Dzeko then Luis Fabiano could be an alternative – as could Adebayor.

“We had a meeting with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, but they didn’t offer him to us. Had they done that, we would have entered talks.”
