FA Cup: Moyes fears transfer trouble as Swansea add to United’s woes

MANCHESTER United manager David Moyes fears he may fail to make “urgent” reinforcements to his squad after the champions’ faltering form continued with yesterday’s FA Cup third round humbling.
A 90th-minute header from striker Wilfried Bony earned Swansea their first ever victory at Old Trafford and inflicted a fourth defeat from six home matches on Moyes’ men.
On a miserable afternoon for United, defender Rio Ferdinand – back after missing the previous six matches – limped off with a knee injury and his replacement Fabio was soon shown a straight red card for a dangerous lunge at Jose Canas.
And with key strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie also among the current absentees through injury, Moyes has stressed the importance of bolstering his squad this month.
“There is an urgency that we would like to bring people in, but are those players available in January?” he said.
“So there is no point in me hyping it up because the players we would like to bring in are probably not available, not because we don’t want to do it.
“It has been a tough start. I am disappointed we have not won more games, but it will change I have no doubt about that.”
Rooney’s absence from the United frontline was one of six changes made by Moyes from the side that lost 2-1 to Tottenham on New Year’s Day.
Yet they looked far from reinvigorated and fell behind on 12 minutes when Wayne Routledge latched onto Alejandro Pozuelo’s through pass and finished superbly over the top of goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard.
The home side levelled four minutes later when Javier Hernandez volleyed in Alex Buttner’s left-wing cross from inside the six yard box.
United were left to hang on in the final exchanges following Fabio’s dismissal just four minutes after his introduction.
But in the final minute of normal time Bony rose unmarked at the near post to power in Routledge’s cross.
