Eva Carneiro legal case against Chelsea and Jose Mourinho set to go public after date is set for full employment tribunal

Former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro’s legal claims against the Premier League champions and their ex-manager Jose Mourinho are set to result in a full and public employment tribunal later this year.

A preliminary hearing at the London South Employment Tribunal in Croydon today, attended by Carneiro and her legal team, did not result in a settlement that would have avoided a full hearing.

Wednesday’s proceedings were held in private but Carneiro had previously been seeking reinstatement to her role as first-team doctor and damages from Chelsea. She had also indicated that she was suing Mourinho for alleged sex discrimination.

The 42-year-old, who was born in Gibraltar but trained and worked in England before joining the Blues in 2009, left the club in September after her role was changed following a row with Mourinho.

Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn were labelled “impulsive and naive” by Mourinho following a 2-2 draw with Swansea, in which they ran on to treat player Eden Hazard, to the manager’s annoyance.

Mourinho, sacked last month following a disappointing start to the season, did not attend today's hearing. He could be ordered to give evidence at the full tribunal, which is expected to take place in the summer.
