Euro finals to see 60,000 fans in largest sports gathering in over 15 months
In the largest sports gathering in over 15 months, the Euro semi-finals and the final will see more than 60,000 fans flock in support at Webley Stadium next month.
Increasing attendance to 75 per cent capacity during the latter stages of the tournament, which spans the 6th, 7th and 11 July, ticket holders will need to have a negative Covid-19 test or proof of full vaccination 14 days before the fixture.
“We have worked extremely closely with UEFA and the FA to ensure rigorous and tight public health measures are in place whilst allowing more fans to see the action live,” culture secretary Oliver Dowden said.
“The finals promise to be an unforgettable moment in our national recovery from the pandemic.”
The move follows last week’s confirmation that the match on 29 June and semi-finals and final would have at least 40,000 attendees under the third phase of the government’s Events Research Programme (ERP).
Ticket holders who have a GP in England will be able to display their proof of vaccination via the NHS app or have printed proof.
A negative Lateral Flow Test result can also be shown via email, text message or the NHS app.
“The last 18 months have taught us – both on and off the pitch – how integral fans are to the fabric of the game,” UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said.
FA’s chief executive agreed, saying it has been “amazing how much atmosphere fans have been able to generate so far, so to have three times as many will be fantastic.”
