A new cross-party group campaigning for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union has launched at an event in Northamptonshire, months after Vote Leave and Leave.EU got started.

The group, called Grassroots Out, is supported by Labour MP Kate Hoey, Conservative MP Tom Pursglove and leader of the UK Independence Party Nigel Farage.

Pursglove said the group's launch in Kettering would be "an historic event, bringing together political foes, who are willing to put aside their differences for the common good".

The Out campaign has been caught up in infighting, with Leave.EU and Vote Leave already vying to become the official Out voice in the upcoming referendum on the UK's membership of the EU.

Only one organisation will be chosen by the Electoral Commission, which regulates party and election finance as well as setting standards for elections, as the official side that will be entitled to broadcast campaign speeches, receive a publicly funded grant of up to £600,000 and send a leaflet to each household.

Prime Minister David Cameron is hoping to reach an EU-wide agreement at a summit next month, meaning the referendum could be held as early as June.
