Elon Musk channels a sheep as he and English Rural Life museum swap pictures

The Museum of English Rural Life has adopted Elon Musk's Twitter display picture, after the Tesla CEO decided to take their sheep image and start answering tweets about Tesla cars with sheep puns.

Now visitors to the page of the Museum of English Rural Life will be greeted with Musk's face in a joke that continues to roll on to new levels.

It started with Musk tweeting a picture of a sheep – the English Rural Life's Twitter picture- before he eventually made it his avatar.

The sheep picture comes from the museum's archives and is described as a 1962 photo of an Exmoor Horn aged ram, in Devon.

The billionaire then also began replying to tweets about his cars using the word sheep, in his latest online tomfoolery.

He has previously asked those on the social media platform for their “dankest memes” and released a rap song about Harambe – the gorilla that was killed in a US zoo.

But the Museum of English Rural Life has also got involved in the fun and used the opportunity to expand their appeal.

It too has taken on the avatar of Elon Musk and has started tweeting about the electric car company owned by him.

In one tweet, it said: “We've invented electric sheep and they're called Teslewe and they cost 12000 of your English pounds".

"The end-game for our whole Twitter is engaging people with English rural life, even if that means memes," Adam Koszary, programme manager and digital lead for museums partnership Reading, told the BBC.

"We'll change our picture back either when Elon changes his back, or at the point where people are confused enough to show up to Elon Musk's house expecting it to be the Museum of English Rural Life."
