SIMON DYSON enjoyed the round of his life to claim the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and move into early Ryder Cup contention.

The Englishman fired a final round 66 at St Andrews to hold off the strong challenge of Oliver Wilson and win his fourth Tour event by three strokes.

Victory not only took the 31-year-old into the top ten of the Race to Dubai rankings but also saw him climb to the top of the early Ryder Cup standings.

“There’s no way this can’t be it,”a delighted Dyson said. “This is like our fifth major, a massive tournament at the home of golf and I’ve shot 66 to win it. I’m absolutely buzzing.”

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy finished tied for second with Wilson – a result which propelled him to the top of the Race to Dubai rankings.

Wilson, on the other hand, had to settle for an eighth second-place finish while still awaiting a first win, while overnight leader Luke Donald could only finish with a 73.
