Downcast Benitez admits he can’t keep his promise

RAFAEL Benitez all but admitted that a Champions League spot is now out of reach after seeing his Liverpool side lose more ground in the hunt for fourth place.
The Reds, without injured striker Fernando Torres, failed to beat Fulham at home, leaving them six points off Manchester City having played an extra game.
“It is not in our hands, it depends on the other teams and the difference is too much now, maybe,” said Benitez.
Asked if regretted guaranteeing, earlier in the season, his team would come in the top four, he added: “It will now be very difficult, we have to be realistic. As a manager you have to believe and support your team.”
