London is making a habit out of creating buildings that test your head for heights.

Today Tower Bridge unveiled a new glass walkway offering a unique view of the 120-year-old bridge and the Thames 42m (138ft) below.

The £1m walkway is 11m by 1.8m long. The West Walkway was opened today and the East Walkway will follow on December 1.

Business and marketing manager for Tower Bridge Christopher Earlier said: “The opening of Tower Bridge marked the dawn of a legendary feat of engineering creating what is considered by many as the most famous bridge in the world.

“Today, 120 years on, we are extremely proud to unveil the new glass floor on the high-level Walkways – another astonishing engineering accomplishment.”

If you're not quite brave enough to walk along the glass floor, Tower Bridge has also developed an augmented reality app, which offers 360 degree views of the bridge being raised from the glass – and drop into the water below. The free app will be available from Google Play and iTunes “soon”.

The project has been provided by Canada Corporation and developed under the auspices of its Culture, Heritage and Libraries Committee.
