Deutsche Bank poaches Bank of England cloud specialist in tech expansion

Deutsche Bank today confirmed it has hired a former IT head at the Bank of England to lead its cloud platforms effort, as the German lender seeks to cut costs by transitioning its business to run on more efficient technology.

Global transaction banking digital head Thomas Nielsen told staff in an email that Deeptasree Mitra will lead the bank’s strategy for utilising cloud technology to bolster data analytics and artificial intelligence, based within the division in London.

She was previously responsible for delivering the technology behind the Bank of England’s new central bank payment and settlement solutions, as well as a former head of data analytics and modelling at the institution.

Nielsen added that Mitra will report directly to himself and David Gleason, who joined Deutsche Bank as its chief data officer in September from JP Morgan Chase.

Deutsche Bank chief executive Christian Sewing has openly spoken of his desire to ramp up GTB’s digitisation in recent months. The division brings in more than a quarter of the lender’s investment banking revenue every year, and reported total sales of €3.9bn (£3.4bn) in 2017.
