Accountancy giant Deloitte has added 80 new partners, 24 of which are women, as the company pushes to improve its gender diversity.

The new roles fall predominantly in London, with 56 of the partners working in the capital. It was recently revealed that women in London work 10 days more per year than the rest of the UK’s female workforce.

The majority of the new partners are in Deloitte's consulting service, which has 24 of the new hires.

The financial advisory department picked up 20, while audit and risk advisory added 18. Tax got 17 new partners and internal client services added just one.

Outside of London, Deloitte's Switzerland office named five new partners, Birmingham also got five, while Manchester got three.

David Sproul, senior partner and chief executive of Deloitte UK, said:

We have seen a second consecutive year of strong female representation amongst Deloitte’s new partners. Achieving greater gender diversity is a clear business imperative and these promotions evidence the success of the range of initiatives we have put in place.

The Return to Work programme, which we announced last year, is helping us to attract more senior female leaders back to the workforce and will further boost our pipeline of future partner candidates.

More than half of participants on last year’s scheme accepted a role with the firm and this year it will be extended with 20 women taking part in a 20-week programme.

"Deloitte is committed to ensuring that it has a culture and environment in which our people are able to balance a successful career with commitments outside work – whether that is family, other caring commitments or other interests," added Emma Codd, managing partner for talent, at Deloitte UK.
