Delays on Thameslink services due to fire at Gatwick Airport

Thameslink services are subject to serious delays this morning, due to a fire near the train tracks at Gatwick Airport.

The disruption comes as commuters grapple with delays caused by industrial action today as the latest three-day strike by Southern rail workers got under way: with the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union walking out at midnight over the ongoing dispute over the role of guards on trains.

Drivers' union Aslef kick-off industrial action in response to an overtime ban next week.

Southern has warned of "severe and significant" disruption as a result of the combined action. It's aiming to have about 50 per cent of the full timetable operating on RMT strike days; but if Aslef strikes go ahead, no services will run.
