Women’s darts sensation Beau Greaves has had her eyes insured for £1m

Women’s darts sensation Beau Greaves has had her eyes insured for £1m by opticians Specsavers.

The stunt came after Greaves, a 22-year-old from Doncaster who wears glasses, won a third Women’s World Matchplay at the weekend when she beat Fallon Sherrock 6-5 in the final at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Like Littler won the men’s event.

“In darts, having clear, reliable vision is a huge part of performing at your best,” Greaves said. “Partnering with Specsavers feels like a natural fit because my eyesight is such a big part of my game, so it makes sense to protect it.”

Specsavers said that they are insuring Greaves’s eyes to shine a “spotlight on the often-overlooked role vision plays at the highest level of sport”. They’re aiming to encourage the public to protect their eyesight.

And it has been a stellar year for the Brit, who became the first woman to win a PDC ranking title.

Greaves hits bullseye with insurance deal

Specsavers’ Neil Liddle added: “Beau continues to break barriers and rewrite what’s possible in darts.

“By insuring Beau’s eyes, we want to remind everyone – not just elite athletes – to value and protect their vision by making regular eye tests a priority.”

While the opticians aren’t a full sponsor of Greaves, they do represent the next step in a trend of new brands entering darts since the likes of Littler took the sport mainstream again.

The current world champion counts the likes of Target Darts, Xbox, Boohoo Man and KP Nuts within his sponsorship roster while Greaves has the backing of Target Darts, like Littler.

Greaves concluded: “I’m really proud to have won the Women’s World Matchplay for a third time. It was a tough final and matches like that come down to the finest of margins.”

Greaves has won 10 of her 11 finals, including three Women’s World Championships and three platinum tournaments.
