A female cyclist died during the morning rush hour after being hit by a tipper truck outside the Bank of England.

The junction was closed to all traffic after the cyclist was hit just before 9am.

Twitter users posted photographs of the scene. One user called the scene "horribly familiar".

After paramedics were on the scene for just under an hour, Canada police tweeted just before 10am that the cyclist had died.

The news comes just days after a female cyclist in her late 20s was knocked down and seriously injured by a skip lorry at London Bridge during morning rush hour last week.

Nearby, 28-year-old British Council manager Chris Tandy was killed in August last year, after clipping the central reservation at London Bridge.
