COOCON Expands MCP-Based Data Business for the AI Agent Era

COOCON (CEO Kim Jong-hyun, KOSDAQ: 294570), a business data platform company in South Korea, announced on June 29 that it is accelerating its push into the Model Context Protocol (MCP)-based data business for the AI agent era.

Under the plan, COOCON aims to grow into a “dedicated data hub for AI agents” by delivering its existing data in MCP format so AI agents can utilize it directly. With over 20 years of expertise in collecting and connecting data across finance, the public sector, logistics, and telecommunications, COOCON expects to establish a strong position in the MCP server-based data market.

MCP, introduced by Anthropic in November 2024, is a standard communication specification that unifies connection methods, enabling AI agents to directly query and utilize external data and systems. As the AI industry rapidly shifts toward AI agents that autonomously interact with external systems to perform tasks, the MCP-based ecosystem—serving as the standard for connecting agents with external systems— is also expanding.

Against this backdrop, global payment companies like PayPal and Stripe have begun enabling AI agents to execute payments directly through their existing infrastructure. In Korea, particularly in the financial sector, companies are increasingly exploring services that incorporate AI agents. The payment sector is also seeking to improve payment system efficiency by incorporating MCPs into their platforms to ensure compatibility with external AI coding tools.

Amid these trends, COOCON plans to launch a “Dedicated AI-Ready Data Zone” on its business data platform COOCON.NET in July and introduce MCP products. It will initially list around 30 products, expand the lineup to over 100 products by year-end, and roll out the entire product portfolio by 2027.

This enables companies to seamlessly utilize required external data for AI agents through COOCON in a standardized manner, eliminating manual integrations. COOCON will prioritize converting highly utilized, frequently accessed data into MCPs, targeting both companies newly adopting AI technologies and existing customers pursuing AI transformation.

To expand its participation in the global standards ecosystem, COOCON joined the Linux Foundation’s global consortium, Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), on June 1. It will also enter the MCP Working Group alongside over 180 organizations —including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Circle, Tron, and Stripe —to help shape global standards and enhance its competitiveness in the AI era.

COOCON expects its MCP-based data business to drive stronger financial performance. As workflow automation drives continuous data requests from AI agents, surging call volumes and a dedicated AI product lineup will diversify its revenue base.

COOCON’s business structure, encompassing both data and payment services, offers a distinct advantage in the AI era. Building on its data business, COOCON will expand AI agent-compatible payment products, linking them with domestic and global payment businesses.

Kim Jong-hyun, CEO of COOCON, said, “The key to the AI era is enabling agents to access trustworthy data. Leveraging our 20-year expertise in data collection and connectivity, COOCON aims to evolve beyond providing APIs used by humans and become a company that provides data directly utilized by AI.”

He added, “COOCON’s distinctive business structure, built on the MCP open standard, will serve as a gateway to the global AI agent ecosystem. I am confident that the MCP data business taking shape in the second half of the year will drive new growth and a key pillar for enhancing corporate value.”
