Uber is expected to celebrate its billionth UK trip later this year, almost 10 years after it first launched.

To mark the milestone, the company has announced that both the billionth rider and the driver who takes the billionth trip will receive prizes.

The customer will win free Uber trips for 10 years, while the driver is set to receive a new electric vehicle worth over £30,000.

“Since launching nearly a decade ago, we have transformed the way that people get from A to B, and have provided genuine earnings opportunities for tens of thousands of drivers across the country,” said Uber’s chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi.

“This is just the beginning and we now look forward to the next billion trips, and our electric future.”
