Severe delays hit the Circle Line, Hammersmith & City Line and the Metropolitan Line after a signal systems failure at Aldgate this morning.

The Metropolitan Line was hit with severe delays between Harrow on the Hill and Aldgate, with minor delays to Uxbridge, but Londoners were affected by delays in both directions on the other lines.

London Overground was also struck with severe delays between Watford Junction to Euston due to a fault on the track.

Meanwhile trains were running a reduced timetable between Gospel Oak and Barking, with just four car trains making the journey every half an hour, forcing Transport for London (TfL) to bring in replacement bus services.

TfL told commuters tickets would be accepted on the Underground.

The disruption comes ahead of a weekend of reduced services across six of TfL’s services.

On the Tube, the Victoria Line and District Line as well as the DLR will all suffer part closures.

No District Line service will run between Earls Court and Wimbledon either day of the weekend, while the Victoria Line will close between Victoria and Brixton from 12.30am for all of Saturday.
