Betdaq’s PR Director Russ Wiseman looks back at a busy week on the exchange…

Most people would agree that last Sunday we witnessed he greatest tennis match ever played in the Wimbledon final between new champion Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

The amazing spectacle also produced arguably the most tremendous betting event we have yet seen with tens of millions traded on the outcome.

It is rare for one match to produce such violent swings and fluctuations in price and, in all, there were 26 changes in favouritism on Betdaq over the course of the final set, as the action went one way and then the other

Nadal, below, was traded at 1/16 when at match point in the fourth set tie-break, with Federer available at 14/1.

An hour later and the Swiss great was backed at a low of 1/3 on the “Daq” with a break point on the Nadal serve in the final set.

The simply unbelievable event signified an undoubted torch-passing moment as, regardless of the rankings, there can be little doubt now as to who the world No.1 is. Looking ahead to next year it would previously have seemed unthinkable, but the young Spaniard has displaced Federer at the head of the market.

The Spaniard is 6/4 to retain his crown, with Federer 7/4 and Novak Djokovic 4/1.

The ladies final produced little in the way of fireworks between the Williams sisters, but Venus, a 13/2 chance before the tournament, was nevertheless a convincing winner over Serena, who went into the final as the very slight 4/5 favourite on the Daq. Venus claimed her fifth Wimbledon crown and, health permitting, looks well placed to make a solid run at title No.6 in 2009.

Now that Euro 2008 is a memory, the countdown to the domestic season can begin. Personnel changes are just one of the reasons that Chelsea may soon be competing for title favouritism with Manchester United on Betdaq.

United on Betdaq. The Blues are now 2/1 from 5/2 after the announcement of Phil Scolari as the new boss, while United are out to 13/8 from 5/4 as speculation about Cristiano Ronaldo’s future continues to grow.

Big name acquisitions are what entice traders at this time of year and Arsenal may also be on the radar of layers at Betdaq if they lose Alexander Hleb and Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Gunners are currently 5/1, but they will certainly go bigger if they lose players of such quality.
