RANJIT BAHAD DAIWA SECURITIES
“It’s right to take it out of the hands of National Express if they’re not doing a good enough job.  Still, where’s the money going to come from to run the line? We’ve got such a big debt burden and running this line is going to be costly.”

SARAH SKINNER LLOYD & PARTNERS
“I don’t think it can be a bad thing because I don’t believe the railways should necessarily be totally run for profit. There needs to be some element of subsidisation because it is a public service.”

MARC HASKINS ALLIANZ
“It’s the best thing that could have happened. The railways should never have been privatised so it’s excellent that the company which took on the contract has been told to get stuffed. On this occcasion, the government is spot on.”
