MANCHESTER City completed the biggest ever margin of victory in a Capital One Cup semi-final last night with a 3-0 second-leg triumph over West Ham wrapping up a 9-0 aggregate win.

City, who last lifted the trophy in 1976, struck in the first half through Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero, before Negredo netted his ninth goal in six games.

West Ham’s misery was compounded when midfielder Mo Diame was carried off on a stretcher in the final minute clutching his knee, after Joe Cole had limped off with a groin strain.

“We can’t make mistakes at this level to the level we did,” said West Ham manager Sam Allardyce.

“The killer of all is the injury, first to Joe Cole which shouldn’t be too long, but Mo Diame looks really serious.”

City will now play either Sunderland or fierce rivals Manchester United in the final at Wembley on 2 March.
