LUUP
Tory MP Michael Howard has joined independent global mobile financial provider LUUP as chairman. The former home secretary is retiring from Parliament to develop an international business career. The position adds to his current business profile as chairman of Northern Racing, deputy chairman of Entrée Gold and a non-executive director of Helphire group.
Tenon Recovery
Tenon Recovery, the turnaround, recovery and insolvency specialist, has taken on Mark Sands as national head of bankruptcy. Sands, who has 25 years of experience in insolvency work, joins from KPMG where he was responsible for setting up its first specialist personal insolvency team in the south east of England. The appointment boosts Tenon’s commitment to build on the work of its recovery operations, which have seen a 50 per cent growth in turnover in the past three years, accounting for nearly 30 per cent of the group’s total revenues.
Berwin Leighton
Leading commercial litigator Graham Shear has joined Berwin Leighton Paisner (BNP) as a partner within its litigation and dispute resolution team. Shear brings more than 22 years of both UK and international experience in commercial litigation to the firm, as well as knowledge of the sports, media and entertainment industries. He acts for corporates, high net worth individuals and entrepreneurs, together with a broad mix of those in the sport and entertainment industry. Shear joins the firm in September alongside fellow Teacher Stern lawyer Joby Davies who also has particular expertise in media and sports litigation.
Opus Group
Advisory business Opus Group has appointed Andrew Young as executive director to help spearhead their expanding international business. Award-winning Young was previously head of Lawrence Graham’s Private Capital Practice and last year moved to LG’s Dubai office to head up their International Private Capital practice. In 2004 he was named private client solicitor of the year at the High Net Awards and in 2007 Citywealth Magazine named him private client lawyer of the year.
Deloitte
Jarrod Haggerty has been announced as a new partner for accountants Deloitte. Haggerty will join the forensic and dispute services practice and will head up the forensic technology team. He joins the company from PwC’s Forensic Technology Solutions practice in London. The appointment follows significant investment by the Deloitte recently to develop a leading forensic technology platform.
