CITY MOVES WHO’S SWITCHING JOBS
Berwin Leighton Paisner
The law firm has hired Russell Clifford as an asset finance partner and David Irving, pictured, as a director in the trusts and private tax team.
Clifford, who was previously at Allen and Overy, specialises in structured asset finance, particularly rolling stock financing transations.
Irving, who formerly ran a private equity and real estate advisory business, will be responsible for targeting the ultra high net worth market, in particular non-domiciled clients.

The broking and corporate advisory firm has appointed Mark Paddon, Dwight Burden and Rhys Williams to its research and sales teams.
Paddon, who will cover support services, media and special situations, joins from Teathers, where he was head of research. Burden and Williams, who specialise in small cap sales, move over from Dresdner Kleinwort and Arbuthnot respectively.
Reed Smith
The law firm has appointed Phillip Slater and Lucy Newcomb to its partnership. Both join the firm’s financial industry group from rival Addleshaw Goddard, to drive the growth of its acquisition and leveraged finance practice in London.
Paul Johnston, chair of the firm’s financial industry group, said: “The lending market is still restricted following the economic downturn. However, this will not always be the case and it makes prudent business sense to enhance our offering for when the market stabilises.”
Lewis Charles Sofia
Duncan Abbot has joined the property fund management group as a non-executive director.
Abbot is a fellow of the Securities Institute, a co-founder and chairman of Coalition Holdings and chairman of Global Special Opportunities Trust.
He was previously chairman of stockbroker Christows Group and co-founded investment group Iimia, which was subsequently renamed Midas Capital.
Barclays Wealth
The global wealth management firm has hired Pablo Martinez Alberola as head of sales in its Spanish asset management division.
Martinez Alberola, who is based in Madrid, will be responsible for liaising with other parts of the retail and commercial bank in Spain, as well as driving commercial relationships for the group’s funds.
He joins from Fortis Investments and has also previously held senior positions at HSBC Investment Bank, Oddo Espana and MEFF.
Santander Corporate Banking
The bank has made three appointments to its education, healthcare and communities (EHC) finance team in the Midlands.
Ian Brown, Mike Gascoigne and Gary McLoughlin join as relationship directors and will report to EHC regional director John Ramsay.
All three join from the Bank of Ireland, where they previously held director-level roles.
