Aviva
Matt Saker is to join the savings, investment and insurance group as its new chief actuary for Europe.

Saker joins from Watson Wyatt, where he worked for over 18 years, becoming a partner in 2003. In his new role, he will be responsible for capital management, life and general insurance reserving and market-consistent embedded value reporting. He will report to Aviva’s chief financial officer for Europe, Tim Harris.

Royal Bank of Scotland
The bank has poached a team of three from rival UBS to join its pan-European cash equity sales desk. Andrew Rodgers, Richard McGlashan and Patrick Hay will be based in London.

The bank has also hired Frank Ertinger from Goldman Sachs as head of equity sales for Germany, and has recruited Brian Chamberlain and Jeff Mellick to its US-based pan-European equity sales desks, from Merrill Lynch and Bear Stearns respectively.

Panmure Gordon
The stockbroking firm has appointed Alison Turner as an investment analyst covering mining stocks.

Turner joins from rival Blue Oar and, prior to that, worked at BHP Billiton. She will be based in the firm’s London office, reporting to co-heads of research Gert Zonneveld and Mark Hughes.

Synova Capital
The private equity fund has appointed Ben Barnett as an investment director.

Barnett has eight years of investment and advisory experience working with growth companies in the UK.

Prior to joining Synova, he worked for Kaupthing Capital Partners, investing particularly in the consumer and healthcare sectors. He also previously worked for JP Morgan in its consumer and retail mergers and acquisitions team in London.

Cheyne Capital Management
The alternative asset management firm has hired Jorge Giampaoli as partner and portfolio manager of the new Cheyne Equity Macro Fund, which will follow a short term, liquid, macro-based equity trading strategy.

Giampaoli joins the company from Morgan Stanley, where he worked for the past eight years, most recently in charge of propriety trading for European equities.

Alesco
David Keen has joined Alesco Risk Management Solutions in London as partner, focusing on business development.

An energy insurance veteran of almost 30 years, Keen was previously at Aon Energy, JLT and Bain Dawes.

His career has spanned the Asia Pacific, Middle East and North America regions, including working for retail and wholesale clients on captive reinsurance programmes.
