City Moves for 8 March 2019 – Who’s switching jobs at McCarthy Denning, Fox Williams and MSCI?

Today's City Moves include McCarthy Denning, Fox Williams and MSCI.

McCarthy Denning

McCarthy Denning is pleased to announce that Sheikh Bilal Khan has joined the firm as a partner and global head of Islamic finance. Sheikh Bilal Khan is dual-qualified in English and Shariah Law, and has won numerous accolades for his work. He belongs to a select group of Shariah scholars who are regarded as the backbone of Islamic finance. Sheikh Bilal, who has over 20 years’ experience in Shariah law and Islamic finance, advises across a broad range of areas including drafting legal transactional documents, alternative forms of dispute resolution, advisory work and Islamic finance product structuring. He also conducts submissions of legal and Shariah opinions and provides expert evidence in court litigation. Alongside his growing legal practice, Sheikh Bilal is chief Islamic finance officer at the Astana International Financial Centre, a panel member of arbitrators at the AIFC International Arbitration Centre, a member of the AIFC Advisory Council on Islamic finance, secretary-general of the Malta Islamic Finance Association and co-chairman of Dome Advisory.

Fox Williams

Fox Williams has announced that Andrew Hill, a dispute resolution partner specialising in securities litigation, has joined the City law firm. Andrew joined the firm from Stewarts Law LLP, where he was a partner. Andrew is at the forefront of developing securities litigation in the UK, helping clients who are shareholders in UK public companies seek compensation when they have been misled. He drove the launch of the UK’s first such claim against a public company – the high-profile and ground-breaking case against Tesco for a large group of institutional investors, following Tesco’s admission of a profit overstatement. Fox Williams has also appointed Adam Fortune, a barrister by background and an experienced litigator and arbitrator, to join the firm’s senior associate ranks.

MSCI

MSCI has announced the appointment of Lee Phillips to managing director, head of EMEA fixed income coverage and country head for UK & Ireland, effective immediately. Lee will report to Alvise Munari, managing director and head of EMEA client coverage, and will be based in London. He joins MSCI from FTSE Russell, where he served as managing director in global strategic account management. Prior to this Lee spent eight years at Barclays, as managing director, head of index and POINT sales EMEA, which followed ten years at Lehman Brothers as head of index and POINT for EMEA. Lee holds a PhD in Theoretical Quantum Physics from the University of Strathclyde, and a BSc in Physics from Imperial College, London.
